Understanding Foam Roller

What is foam rolling? This is a question many people ask. Foam rolling is the concept of the action performed by the proper use of a foam roller. By foam rolling, it is understood that active body massaging the body / muscles using a foam roller. Foam rolling is a cheap alternative to otherwise expensive massage and physiotherapist treatments. With foam rolling, you get a deep tissue massage, or nearer, what is called Self-Myofascial Release.

What you achieve

Foam rolling helps both to remedy, treat and prevent damage. For foam rolling, you are wise to use a proper foam roller to suit your needs. For repeated use of a proper foam roller, you can get more benefits. Foam rolling has the positive effect that it reduces muscle fatigue , improves your mobility, reduces and degrades scar tissue and at the same time has no negative effect on the strength that other forms may have. This is due to everything before the Self-Myofascial Release (SMR) mentioned.

What Happens

What happens when properly performing foam rolling and achieving SMR is quite complicated. What happens is to create an antimyotic reflex in the Golgi senate. The Golgi tendon is a mechanism receptor that is hypersensitive to changes in muscle tension. This body tells the body how much excitement is in the affected muscle / tendon. The Golgi tendon stimulates deaf muscles when the tension in them becomes so high that they consider there is a risk of injury. This process is caused by the muscle spindles to become relaxed, thereby lowering the tone of muscle tissue. When tonus is reduced, it is called the antimyotic reflex.

SMR can be obtained in many different ways, not just by foam rolling. Massage balls, lacrosse balls and other small tools can also create SMR, and may be preferred in smaller areas. Foam rolling when using foam rolls is, however, the most widely used tool, as you can more easily and easily cover larger parts of the body.
